Nvidia's last Windows 10 gaming driver arrives next month

Paying for another year on Windows 10 was the sensible call for a lot of people. Nvidia has just made it a slightly worse deal for one group. Its support page for the operating system says the final Game Ready and Studio drivers for Windows 10 arrive in October 2026. From November, Windows 10 drops to quarterly security-only driver updates, and that arrangement runs to October 2029.

Read the detail before you worry, because it's less dramatic than the headlines. Your graphics card carries on working. Security fixes keep coming for three more years. What stops is the tuning - the driver that appears on the morning a big game launches, the patch for the crash in something you already own, the optimisation work for hardware and titles that don't exist yet. If you game on Windows 10, expect the gap to open slowly rather than anything breaking overnight.

Owners of older cards have less road left. Maxwell, Pascal and Volta GPUs went into security-only support back in October 2025, and that ends in October 2028 no matter which version of Windows they're plugged into.

This isn't a reason to rush an upgrade this week. It is a reason to install October's driver when it lands and then keep hold of it. Tendvane covers both halves of that: driver Auto-Update pulls the current release, and Back up drivers saves the set that works on your machine right now, so a bad install later is something you can undo rather than something you live with.
