Eight AI buttons are coming out of the Windows right-click menu
Right-click a file in your OneDrive folder today and Windows offers to summarise it, write an FAQ about it, compare it with another file, answer a question about it, explain an image, explain several images, compare images, or pull the text out of a picture. Eight entries. From mid-November they start disappearing, and Microsoft expects them all to be gone by early December.
The notice went out as message MC1515940 in the Microsoft 365 admin centre. The stated reason is "simplifying" how people use Copilot with OneDrive files and cutting down the number of places it offers to start. The unstated reason is harder to miss. Windows 11's right-click menu has been a complaint magnet since the day it shipped, and the enthusiasm for stuffing it with AI has not been mutual. Microsoft has been quietly pulling back Copilot entry points across Windows for a while now.
Nothing is being deleted outright. Right-click still offers Ask Copilot, which takes a question in your own words rather than one of eight prepared ones. The same actions stay inside the OneDrive activity centre and the Copilot app, and File Explorer Home keeps its Copilot icon. Extract text is the one real loss in the list, since reading the words out of a screenshot without opening anything was a decent trick. It has about six weeks left in the menu.
You do not have to do anything for this, which is how a change like this should work. Tendvane's check for updates simply confirms Windows and your installed apps are current, so the menu you end up with is the one Microsoft is actually shipping rather than a stale version of it.
