If you've got a Dell and July's Windows update isn't showing up, that's on purpose
Some Dell owners went looking for this month's Windows update and found nothing waiting. That's not a glitch - Microsoft is blocking it on purpose. After the July 2026 security update (KB5101650) triggered unexpected shutdowns, sluggish performance, extra heat and faster battery drain on certain Intel-based Dell machines, Microsoft put a compatibility hold on those devices so the update simply won't be offered until there's a fix.
The cause is a clash between two pieces of plumbing. A new USB-C Connection Manager component that arrived in June's optional update (KB5095093) doesn't get along with Intel's Innovation Platform Framework driver - the bit that manages power and heat - on some Dell laptops. When they collide, the PC can shut itself down. Microsoft hasn't published a list of exact models, but it's specific Intel-based Dell configurations, not every Dell out there.
If your Dell isn't being offered KB5101650, leave it be. Don't go hunting for the standalone file to install it by hand - the block is there to protect you, and Microsoft says a proper fix is due "in the coming days." If you've already got it and your machine is misbehaving, updating your Dell and Intel drivers to the newest versions is the thing most likely to settle it while Microsoft finishes the repair.
Driver mismatches like this are exactly why keeping them current matters. Tendvane's driver Auto-Update flags out-of-date drivers and points you to your PC maker's latest versions, and its check-for-updates confirms whether the month's Windows update actually reached your machine or is being held back.
