An AI app has started asking to keep your voice recordings
If you talk to Claude rather than type at it, a new box turned up this weekend: "Allow us to use your voice data to improve our AI models." Two buttons underneath, Allow and Not now. BleepingComputer reported it on Sunday morning.
Credit where it is due, this one is off until you switch it on, and there is a permanent toggle rather than a one-time decision. It sits in Settings, then Privacy, worded as allowing the use of your audio recordings and voice chat data from approved sessions to improve Anthropic's models. It is a separate switch from the older one covering chats and coding sessions, which arrived in September 2025 when Anthropic first asked Free, Pro and Max users to decide whether their conversations could be used for training. Voice data you already shared can be deleted later from the same screen.
Worth thinking about for a second before tapping Allow to make the box go away, because audio is not a chat transcript. A recording carries your accent, your name as you say it, whoever else happens to be in the room, a child in the background, the television. Saying no costs nothing and the app works the same either way. The same question is worth asking of every other app on your phone and PC that has been granted the microphone, most of which never put a box on the screen at all.
Windows has its own pile of these settings, scattered across pages most people open once and never revisit. Tendvane's privacy and accounts check walks through them and tells you which ones are currently sharing something.
